Have you been watching the new season of The Handmaid's Tale? Don't worry No Spoilers here. I'm up to season two episode 5 and am loving it! Elizabeth Moss continues to be fantastic as expected and the soundtrack is as great as ever.
Old characters and new whisk us back into the land of Gilead, a dystopian society in which the fertility of the human race has vastly declined. The totalitarian fanatic government creates a new class system, in which women are without rights. Women who are found to be fertile are forced into a life of sexual servitude to become pregnant for those in power. The similarities to some of today's realities are terrifying.
I really enjoyed the first season. Having read Margaret Atwood's thrilling book, it was fascinating to see the world brought to life in a modern setting. And although some things were slightly different, I was following along with an expectation for where the tale would go next knowing the story. That's what is so enthralling about this second season, it takes place beyond the book and I am gripped.
I am enjoying seeing what happens next, as well as getting to see other characters being fleshed out through flashbacks and side stories. I feel there's also a darker tone and a real exploration of the situations this society has created. There are 13 episodes this time round, so three more than season one, and plans for a third season.
I'll be watching!
